One

One is a one-stop app designed to help refugees access essential services and start fresh. From food and shelter to legal aid, job opportunities, education, and community events, One simplifies access to crucial resources in multiple languages. With a user-friendly design, it empowers refugees to navigate daily challenges, connect with others, and feel at home in their new communities—all while fostering support from local donors ready to help.
One is a personal project I developed in my free time alongside school assignments.
Inspired by the experiences of refugees I know personally, I created this app to address the challenges they face firsthand.

Goal

To create an all-in-one support platform for refugees, providing quick, easy access to essential resources. The aim was to build a user-friendly app that empowers refugees to feel connected, informed, and supported in their new communities, with instant access to critical emergency contacts.

User Research

I conducted interviews, literature reviews and competitor analysis. Everyone I spoke with owns a smartphone, underscoring the need for a mobile app. Key challenges include finding food, shelter, and legal help, overcoming language barriers, and accessing mental support. Many refugees want to continue their education or learn new skills but worry about providing basic needs for their families. These insights shaped One to be simple, multilingual, and filled with essential resources- emergency contacts, food, shelter, job opportunities, education, and community support- all in one place.

Challenge

Designing an interface that’s universally understandable and accessible to people from diverse cultural backgrounds, many of whom may have limited experience with technology. The app needed to be simple yet effective, with a layout that could be easily navigated in multiple languages.

The problem

Refugees struggle to access basic necessities such as housing, food, healthcare, and legal assistance due to inconsistent information, language barriers, and complex systems. Solving this would empower them to navigate resources independently and build community connections while positioning our platform as a trusted, user-focused solution.
